Baby Alpaca Care

Alpaca clothing can last for decades. However, proper care for your alpaca treasures is vital! Protect and prolong the life of your baby alpaca sweaters, blankets and accessories using these simple guidelines.

• We recommend dry cleaning for your Baby Alpaca cape, ruana, fur garment, blanket or throw. Bring along the care tag that came with your garment, and point out any spots or stains so your professional can use the best method to remove them.

• Smaller items such as socks, hats, scarves and shawls may be hand-washed as long as you follow a few simple instructions.

HOW TO WASH SMALL BABY ALPACA ITEMS

Step 1: Fill a clean sink or tub with cold water. Don’t use hot water; it will turn the fibers to felt! Add a small amount of a gentle shampoo such as baby shampoo. The goal is to use a delicate solution with as little detergent in it as possible. NEVER use chlorine bleach.

Step 2: Soak for 3-5 minutes. Gently squeeze suds through garment. DO NOT twist, wring or scrub.

Step 3: Rinse in clean cold water. Gently squeeze out excess water. Again, DO NOT twist, wring or scrub. Change the water and rinse a second time.

Step 4: Lay the garment between two towels, roll up and set aside for a few minutes.

Step 5: NEVER hang to dry. Place your garment on a dry towel or sweater rack. Reshape on a flat surface and let it dry naturally, away from heat and never in the sunlight.

Step 6: If your garment is wrinkled after drying, you can steam it lightly. Once it’s dry, you can even hang it in the bathroom while you run the shower to let the steam ease away the creases.

STORING BABY ALPACA

• Clean your garment before you store it. Moths are drawn to human sweat, hair and body oil that are left on natural fibers.

• It’s a great idea to store your garment in a sealed bag to keep out pests, water, humidity and dust. But please avoid vacuum packs, as they can cause permanent creases in fabric. Natural fibers need to breathe!

• Add an herbal bag to keep pests away and keep items smelling fresh over time. Dried rosemary, lavender, clove, cinnamon or cedar strips in small cloth bags work well.

NEVER use chemical moth repellants.

The better you treat your Baby Alpaca favorites, the longer you will enjoy them. Follow these hints to keep them gorgeous for many years to come.
